Introducing Eco Friendly Cleaning in Facilities Management

At a time when considering the environment is of the utmost importance, eco friendly cleaning is a small yet significant step to improve your office space.

Switching to using long lasting cleaning equipment means your cleaning routine will be much more environmentally friendly, since you won’t be replacing the products so often. For example, using reusable sponges, or more effective eco friendly cleaning products, will prevent having to throw out supplies too often.

There are a few steps which you can take to prevent the waste of equipment and using harsh chemicals. Items, such as mops with microfibre heads, can be reused after washing and therefore last longer than those without microfibres. Biodegradable products, such as those with wooden handle mops and brooms and cellulose sponges, are great to use without the guilt of having too many tools.

Avoid hazardous chemicals

Most cleaning products on the shelves unsurprisingly contain a lot of chemicals which will harm the environment. Chemicals, such as chloroform, can be found in chlorine bleach, which is thought to be carcinogenic.  Avoid ingredients with toxic chemicals such as those which are flammable, antibacterial and poisonous. Obviously, not only do they do damage to the environment but they can damage you and your employees too.

Natural eco friendly cleaning products still give the same result as a product pumped with harsh chemicals. Yes, chemicals may sometimes get the job done quicker. But, committing a little extra time to your cleaning routine will achieve the same results in a more environmentally friendly and less hazardous manner.

Go au natural

There are many healthy alternative cleaning products that don’t include toxins in their list of ingredients. Products which you may have in the kitchen cupboards at home, such as baking soda and vinegar, will perform just as well.

Did you know that white vinegar acts like a sterilising agent, fights limescale and helps to remove bad smells? You can even use it to clean some surfaces. Remain cautious that surfaces, such as stone, may not react well to such an acidic product though. Baking soda can provide a great deep clean for your oven or toilet.  Something as simple as coffee grounds can fight bad odours which you have struggled to get rid of for months in a matter of hours.

The pros of eco friendly cleaning

The obvious

It’s better for the environment.

Healthier staff

Since 1950, at least 70,000 new chemical compounds have been invented and dispersed into the environment. (*) Only a small fraction of these have been tested for human toxicity. Using more eco friendly cleaning products means your cleaning staff will no longer be exposed to harsh chemicals. Employees who work in the offices will also be safe from breathing in any toxins.

Safety

With chemicals comes the risk of chemical burns. Conventional cleaning products pose risks such as chemical burns to the cleaner’s skin and eyes. Green cleaners aren’t corrosive and meet strict standards regarding inhalation toxicity, combustibility and skin absorption.

Better knowledge on ingredients

Did you know that government regulations do not require ingredients to be listed on any cleaning products? Using eco friendly products will ensure that you always know what you are using.

Making changes to your cleaning routine will make drastic improvements to the overall well-being of the planet. Whether our commercial cleaning team are cleaning offices, housing, retail or industrial premises, we know the quirks and issues that go with each sector. So, we’ll create a programme to suit your individual needs. Along with cost savings, we’ll also always give you a clear idea of overall budgets.
